Gary's 2009 budget set for introduction :: Lake County :: Post-Tribune:October 7, 2008

GARY -- An $84 million operating budget, with a general fund estimate of $63 million, is expected to be introduced tonight to City Council.
The document outlines a drop in city spending of about $9 million through layoffs and department mergers. Gary is struggling to survive a $9 million shortfall this year and new property tax laws could cut its operating budget by about $36 million in 2009.
According to records before the City Council, Gary plans to eliminate 11 patrolmen positions at its police department and 21 firefighters from its fire department next year."
